I knew that I wanted to marry Dale the first week that I met him and I am glad that he decided to agree with me after some time. I have been blessed by a wonderful husband who knows me better than anyone else and I find great delight in him. Even better is that he is a dad that makes good decisions with Lindy (except for those crazy exceptions like giving her a cup of hot chocolate and whipped cream at 9 o’clock at night, which made for a fun surprise when I walked in the door).
Lindy adores her daddy and melts in his arms when he comes home from work. For father’s day, I asked her what present she wanted to get daddy. She didn’t even have to think before she said, “A Ball.” I tried to encourage her to say something that I wanted to get daddy but she wouldn’t stand for it. So, we went to the store and I found the cheapest ball and encouraged her to pick one out. She also got to choose the Father’s Day card. I was hoping to give her 3 of my favorite options but before I could find ONE, she had pulled one off the shelf and was handing it to me. I tried to coax her out of buying that one, but again, she didn’t want to change her choice. I smiled and bought the card. Daddy smiled too when he opened the card…
“You’re the BEST Stepdad in the whole world!”
I think she liked the puppy dog on the cover the best. It made for a good laugh for all. Hopefully it won’t raise questions for her when she turns 12 and finds the card.
We had a scavenger hunt in Lindy’s room for daddy’s presents on Saturday and today Dale worked at church all morning. We were able to go to the cemetery today to visit Everett. Sure wish he was with us. It’s hard not to say “It’s NOT fair” when you see so many happy parents with their little children; but I wouldn’t wish the death of a child on anyone.
We laid Lindy down for bed. If you look in her bed, you’ll see she is NOT there. Can you find where she was sleeping when we went in at 1 in the morning?
We’ve had the privilege of having 2 young college ladies staying with us through the summer (Jessamine and Arielle pictured below), occupying the attic suite. We have enjoyed our time with them together, they bring lots of joy and laughter to the house. Tonight we played Dutch Blitz -which by the way is A GREAT game if you’ve never played it before. Dale kept mentioning how his friend from Minnesota, Mari, was the MASTER at playing the game (Kudos to you Mari if you read this). Arielle was the winner of all 3 games. She is FAST. Jessamine just got back from Spain and is fluent in Spanish, so we’ve had fun speaking in spanish. I need to learn more verbs!!!
Dale finished week 1 of 3 weeks of Summer Camp and is jumping into the next week of camp. I appreciate camp days because he is in at 8 and home by 5. Much more predictable and we have him home in the evenings. This past week they did 6 scenes from Peter Pan -they were very enjoyable to watch. This week, they’ll be doing scenes from Treasure Island, Gulliver’s Travels, Into the Woods, Alice in Wonderland, The Hobbitt, and Robin Hood -hence the title of camp “Adventures in Theatre.”
